The magic lens can provides 3d explorations of rich datasets. By moving the magic lens through the volume, the lens can be volumetric, layered, zoomable, or temporal information spaces.
It is just like a special eye to look at the data world!

Technical setup:

- Camera: detect the paper

- Projector: project both on the table and the paper

The device is easy to use. By moving a tracked sheet of paper, the user can explore more information on the tabletop display. Users don’t even have to use fingers to touch the paper. They can control the paper by their natural movement.

It provides a new method of exploring the inside world. Traditionally, we use pictures, models, computer models to let people know what it looks like inside the things. This design makes it possible to see any cut-plane slice of the thing conveniently.

It can be apply to explosion or education. It is a promising device!

Motivation: To solve the challenge of exploring large information spaces on interactive surfaces.

The adaptive mouse uses a hall-effect sensor along with a magnet and a piece of foam(for deformation properties). The sensor then measures the magnetic field and translates it to a voltage value which depends on the distance to the magnet. This is then send as a digital signal to a micro-controller unit to determine the users hand configuration to adapt the properties of the mouse.

Motivation: This project is interesting because of how sensors and material is being combined to create a mouse that is not only fully functional, but can also change shape according to the users preference and sense if the user is left- or righthanded to adapt accordingly.

The change to an approach of interactivity were users interacts directly with a display (ipod, iphone etc) rather than indirectly (mouse and keyboard) is quite challenging. This is microsofts take on how to interact directly with a display through the technique “pen + touch”.

Motivation: It’s an interesting thing for artists and designers to interact with a display in a more creative way than maybe a regular mouse-pen or just a mouse and keyboard.
