Daniel Nyberg sa...

So called "sandbox" games that are praised for their open game world where the player is allowed to do "anything" are abundant, but they are not really as open as they allude. This paper goes through the concept of game orchestration, the act of creating content for the player in real time. This content can be in aid of the player, or in direct opposition in place of an AI. Some examples of previous ventures in game orchestration are discussed, and then a more thorough definition of the term is made. Afterwards, two examples are given of highly tangible game orchestration approaches in two games. However, there is very little discussion of what the future may hold, and what a more widespread adaption of tablet/multitouch surface will bring.

I will not be able to hold my presentation tomorrow (Wed 12th).
